Best Laptops for Students 2026 – Update Thread
yo so i’ve been helping students pick laptops for like 5 years now and 2026 is a different game entirely. here’s the real breakdown:
TOP TIER (for engineering/cs students):
– MacBook Pro M4 Max: €2,800 – overkill unless you’re doing ML
– Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon: €1,200 – best value, Windows, super reliable
– Dell XPS 15: €1,500 – gorgeous screen, runs everything
MID TIER (most students):
– MacBook Air M3: €1,400 – honestly this is the sweet spot
– ASUS Vivobook 16: €700 – great battery, super light
– HP Pavilion: €600 – fine for humanities
PROTIP: don’t cheap out on the SSD. 256GB fills up fast when you’re doing projects.

I think maybe the mid-tier is good for design students too? I need something that handles Figma and Adobe stuff smoothly. Would the MacBook Air handle video editing or should I go XPS?
In pratica, per design sei sicuramente bene con MacBook Air - la sua integrazione con Adobe è ottima e l'ecosistema Apple è pensato proprio per creativi. Da quel che vedo nei miei colleghi designer, la scelta giusta è proprio il MacBook.

bro at 400 you're not getting NEW - but refurb ThinkPads are the move. look on eBay italy, delle volte trovi i vecchi X1 carbon per quel prezzo, scale up quando puoi
In pratica, se hai 400 euro allora senti, un Chromebook potrebbe bastare - soprattutto se usi principalmente Google Docs e tools online. Non è la soluzione migliore, ma tecnicamente funziona.
ascolta fra, per ingegneria automotive che mi consigli? i modelli che dici sono buoni ma xké nn parli dei asus republic of gamers? dai, quelli hanno GPU che servono pure per CAD

bro the ROG laptops are solid pero they're too expensive per quello che ti serve, fra. for CAD you don't need those specs - the ThinkPad X1 o MacBook Air fanno il lavoro benissimo. save the money for other stuff, type monitor o peripherals che sono importanti davvero
