I found 6 tools offering either fully free plans or generous free tiers: Walter Writes (free trial), Airdeed Humanizer (free), Humanize AI Text (free), AIHumanize (free tier), Ryter Pro (free tier), and Clever AI (free with limits).

Quick Results

Walter Writes Free Trial – Best results by far, brought AI scores to 3-5% consistently. Downside is the trial has limited words, so you can’t humanize your entire semester’s work for free. But it proves the tool works before you pay.

Airdeed Humanizer – Surprising for a free tool. Managed to bring scores down to 15-20% range. Output quality is decent but not as polished as paid options. Worth trying if you’re on a tight budget.

Humanize AI Text – Mediocre. Scores hovered around 25-35%. Basically just does synonym replacement which modern detectors see right through.

AIHumanize Free Tier – Similar to Humanize AI Text. Basic word swapping that doesn’t fool advanced detectors. Free tier is very limited on words too.

Ryter Pro Free – Couldn’t get it below 30% on any test. The free version might use a less capable model.

Clever AI Free – Mixed results, anywhere from 12% to 40%. Too inconsistent to rely on for important assignments.

My Honest Take

If you need reliable results, a paid tool is worth the investment. Among free options, Walter Writes’ trial gives the best results to prove the concept, and Airdeed is the best fully free option. But nothing free matches what the top paid tools deliver consistently.

The smartest free strategy? Use AI tools for brainstorming and outlining, then write the actual essay yourself. No humanizer needed.
