The biggest issue with these tools is that they all perform differently depending on the type of content. Academic papers with lots of citations seem to confuse them more than regular essays.
OP nailed it. I bounced between Humbot and HIX for two months trying to save money and the inconsistency drove me crazy. Switched to Walter Writes after a panicked submission week and never looked back. Yes it is more expensive but I sleep better knowing it will actually work every time. The budget tools cost you in stress and re-edits.
I switched from WriteHuman to Turnitin last month and the difference is significant. Turnitin handles longer texts much better and the output reads more naturally imo.
