I ran the same essay through 7 AI detectors, here are the results
Alright so I finally got around to doing a proper comparison and the results surprised me. Sharing everything below.\n\nMy testing process was simple but thorough. I took one essay I wrote myself, ran it through ChatGPT to get an AI version, then tested both versions on every tool I could access.\n\nThe spread in accuracy was honestly shocking. I expected them all to be roughly similar but some were dramatically better than others.\n\nWhat do you all think? Would love to hear different perspectives on this.

Log In to ReplyQuick tip for anyone self-checking - run your paper through the detector BEFORE you do any grammar corrections. Grammarly and similar tools can increase your AI score.
I think the bigger issue here is that universities are using these tools as definitive proof when they should be treated as one data point among many.
Just went through this exact situation last month. Ended up having to do an oral defense of my paper which was actually fine because I wrote every word myself.
Totally agree with this. Same experience here.

For anyone in a similar situation I would recommend documenting your writing process. Keep drafts and revision history. It is the best defense against false accusations.
This is why I always self-check my papers before submitting. Takes 5 extra minutes but saves so much stress.
That is a great tip. Going to try this on my next paper.
I tried three of these tools last week and my results were pretty close to what you found. The variance between detectors is honestly absurd.
This needs to be higher up. More people need to see this.
