My Professor Recommended Using an AI Humanizer – Is This Normal Now?

35

Ok this was wild. During office hours my writing professor actually told me that if I use AI tools for brainstorming, I should run the output through a humanizer or heavily edit it before submitting. She said the point of the assignment is demonstrating understanding not proving I didnt use AI.

She specifically said she cares about whether I can identify good arguments and structure them logically. If AI helps me get to a first draft faster she is fine with that as long as the final version reflects my thinking.

This feels like a huge shift from last year when professors were threatening to fail anyone who even looked at ChatGPT. Are other schools moving in this direction or is my professor just unusually chill about it?

Also which humanizer tools do people actually recommend? I want something that doesnt dumb down the writing since these are grad-level papers.

My advisor told me basically the same thing. The landscape is shifting fast. Universities are realizing the blanket ban approach doesnt work.
